I purchased a 2000 Kenworth W900 with a 475 horse cat engine with 375,000 miles. I do
regional hauling in the Pacific Northwest states with a load of about 105,000 pounds. I ran the truck with the lubricants
that were in it, the engine consumed 1 gallon of oil at 8,000 miles and a second gallon at 10,000 miles. I then changed to
Conklin’s Convoy 15W40 and it only consumed a half a gallon at 14,000 miles. The manifold pressure also improved by
2 psi. The Fuller 18 speed transmission on step grades, up or down, generally ran a temp of 260-265 degrees. Since changing
to the Top Spec 80W40 the temp rarely exceeds 200 degrees. The DS404 differentials with 355 ratios were running 250 degrees
and since changing they are running consistently at 180-185 degrees. |
