Mileage Tip #109
Keep your tires properly inflated. Under-inflated tires can lower your gas mileage .4% for every psi drop. Properly inflated tires are safer and will last longer.

Mileage Tip #119
Heat is the #1 cause of transmission failure. Avoid transmission failure and high repair costs with ATF-XTRA.

PERFORMANCE TIP:
Even minor cooling system seepage can ruin your engine if neglected. Just one or two pin-size radiator leaks can quickly develop into major holes and cause engine overheating. Professional race teams frequently add Dike® as a preventative measure against radiator punctures caused by rocks or debris.

How to Convert to Convoy
When converting an engine from conventional motor oil to Convoy® it is important to first clean any sludge and deposits from the crankcase with TKO®.

For new vehicles with less than 20,000 miles you can use Convoy at the next oil & filter change interval.

If your vehicle has 20,000-100,000 miles on it run TKO and conventional motor oil, such as Silver Prime® for 3000 miles before adding Convoy.

For engines over 100,000 miles, it may be necessary to run TKO more than the one oil change interval. Keep in mind you can’t run TKO too many times.

While running TKO you may notice a slight increase in oil consumption at first, this is normal. The increased oil consumption is a result of the sludge and deposits burning off.

*Always change oil filter when changing oil

How to Flush an Automatic Transmission

Automatic gearboxes require transmission fluid to be changed regularly, not only to prolong the life of the gearbox, but also to ensure it performs at its best.

Automatic gearboxes require transmission fluid to be changed regularly, not only to prolong the life of the gearbox, but also to ensure it performs at its best.

  1. Remove and drain the transmission pan.
  2. Change transmission filter and reinstall pan with new gasket.
  3. Fill transmission with the necessary amount of ATF-XTRA. Do not start engine at this time!
  4. Disconnect one of the two transmission cooling lines from the radiator. On vehicles with side reservoirs disconnect the lower line. On vehicles with bottom reservoirs disconnect the line on the drivers side.
  5. Place the end of the line into a drain pan.
  6. Start the engine.
  7. The old fluid will be pumped into the drain pan. Watch the fluid until it stops coming out of the line. Shut off engine immediately.
  8. Refill the transmission with ATF-XTRA.

Repeat process until the fluid coming out of the line is bright red.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding Conklin Lubrication & Vehicle Products.

Why do Conklin’s parasynthetic oils provide superior performance in cold temperatures?
Conklin’s parasynthetic oils have a lower pour point compared to conventional petroleum oils. This means that in colder temperatures Conklin’s parasynthetic oils are more fluid providing faster lubrication, easier starts and reduced wear on all metal parts.

Will Conklin lubricant products void manufacturers’ warranties?
No.Conklin lubricants meet or exceed all manufacturers’ specifications when used as recommended.

Which viscosity of Convoy® should I use in my vehicle?
Conklin recommends using the viscosity the manufacturer suggests. To find out what viscosity the manufacturer recommends, you can look in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.

Will Diesel Plus® keep my fuel from gelling?
Yes, Diesel Plus will help keep diesel fuel from gelling. Adding one pint of Diesel Plus® to 75 gallons of fuel will lower the fuel gelling point by up to 20 F. Diesel Plus is also formulated to lubricate and keep diesel fuel systems clean. Providing improved performance, longer injector life, better start-up and increased fuel economy.

Why should I use oil analysis?
Oil analysis will help you save money by allowing you to safely extend oil drains and maximize how long you can go on that oil change. Changing your oil on a regularly scheduled maintenance program will extend the life of your vehicle or equipment, but sampling your oil will tell you the condition of the oil and help you save even more money by optimizing the miles you can drive on an oil change. Oil analysis can also increase the value of your vehicle. When you are ready to sell your vehicle one of the first questions someone will ask is "what kind of shape is the engine in"? Normally all you can say is "I’ve never had any problems" or "it runs fine". If you use oil analysis you will have a documented history of the condition of your vehicles engine which will increase its value.
